A great choice to feature the trumpet player's abilities with a moderate demand in the band accompaniment. Concertino para Trompeta y Banda is a piece that poses musical and technical challenges for the trumpet soloist through an itinerary including various Colombian rhythms: pasillo, joropo, and mapalé. In contrast to the demand on the soloist, the band accompaniment does not have any major complications, providing colors and textures that give a sense of power and openness. The piece was commissioned by the Municipal Band of el Retiro, Antioquia (Colombia) and won the 1st prize in the National Band Composition Contest in San Pedro, Valle (Colombia) in 2008.
